A Dubai-bound Emirates flight with 280 passengers on board caused a stir at Chennai International Airport on Tuesday night after smoke was detected emanating from the wing portion of the aircraft, airport officials confirmed.

The Chennai International Airport’s tarmac witnessed tense moments on Tuesday (September 25, 2024) night as an Emirates flight to Dubai began to emanate smoke, and fire tenders were rushed in to extinguish it.

A Dubai-bound Emirates flight carrying 280 passengers, which was delayed Tuesday night after smoke was detected from its wing portion, proceeded on its journey past midnight after due checks and clearance, officials at the airport told news agency PTI.

Emirates stated that smoke seen on flight EK547 from Chennai to Dubai resulted from a technical issue during refuelling. The incident occurred just before departure, with emergency teams promptly addressing it.

Emirates' flight from the Indian city of Chennai to Dubai was delayed on Wednesday evening due to a technical fault, the airline said. The carrier was delayed by over two hours and landed at Dubai International Airport past midnight.
