The West Wing” might be returning to office. Aaron Sorkin, who created the political drama series that aired from 1999 to 2006, revealed after he visited the White House on Friday that he’s thinking about reviving the show.

Despite his disinterest in revisiting his past work, Sorkin is more than aware of his show’s impact on current and future leaders, but never intended to use “The West Wing” as a soap box or some kind of recruiting device. Nevertheless, he’s touched by the effect it’s had on others.

Sorkin didn't go into detail about his ideas, but that may be a good thing. It could indicate that he wants to keep the ideas secret in case he actually decides to use them, in theory. The odds of a West Wing reboot have always seemed pretty slim, but it’s probably safe to say the possibility is greater now than it has been in the past.

Sorkin denies that “The West Wing” was intended to preach liberalism or any other political perspective. “The show doesn’t exist so that I can make a point about the census or anything else,” he said. “Writers have been telling stories about kings and palaces for centuries. This was another one.”

Centered on the senior staff who make the White House run every day, The West Wing seemed like a bit of a long shot, a political fantasy about an idealistic Democratic president in the wake of Clinton scandals and amid rising Republican power.
