Italy freed Iranian businessman Mohammad Abedini whom it was holding on a U.S. warrant in connection with a drone attack in Jordan in which three American service members were killed and more than 30 were injured.

Mohammad Abedini had been detained over his alleged involvement in the 2024 drone attack on Tower 22 in Jordan, which left three American service members dead.

Mohammad Abedini was arrested three days before Italian journalist Cecilia Sala was detained while on a reporting trip to Iran. Sala, who was believed held as a bargaining chip for Abedini’s release,
