SALT LAKE CITY — The Islanders’ disaster scenario came to pass on Saturday. With Semyon Varlamov out with a lower-body injury, Ilya Sorokin fell ill and was unavailable for the match against Utah Hockey Club. That left the Isles scrambling, with Marcus Hogberg in net and Jakub Skarek being recalled from Bridgeport on an emergency basis.
Marcus Hogberg, looking for his first NHL victory since April 28, 2021, made his second start and fourth appearance for the Islanders.

Eiserman had the same mindset in his first World Juniors. The 18-year-old was given a variety of roles as the tournament went on, whether it was playing on a line with Nelson, dressing in games as a 13th forward or being utilized in certain situations like the power play.
"I love the way he's playing," Islanders head coach and Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy said. "He's sound. He's very well-positioned. Everything seems so easy for him. I'm very impressed with the way he's been playing." Roy said the reason he gave Hogberg the start on Saturday was that he deserved it.
BOTTOM LINE: The Columbus Blue Jackets head to the New York Islanders in Metropolitan Division action on Monday. New York has a 4-5-2 record in Metropolitan Division games and an 18-20-7 record overall. The Islanders have a 7-1-1 record when scoring a power-play goal.
