Sherrif Christina Corpus, who holds the distinction of being the first woman to lead the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office since its establishment, finds herself at the center of a growing controversy.

Five Congressional and state leaders from San Mateo County on Monday called upon embattled Sheriff Christina Corpus to resign, saying her continued tenure impacts public safety.

There was a heated Board of Supervisors meeting in San Mateo County Wednesday where the board unanimously voted to ask Sheriff Christina Corpus to step down.

The report — authored by retired Santa Clara County Judge LaDoris Cordell — was released just hours after Carlos Tapia, president of the San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, turned himself in Tuesday on felony charges related to alleged time card fraud.

San Mateo County Assistant Sheriff Matthew Fox has resigned, the San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff’s Association said on Friday. Fox’s abrupt resignation comes amidst an ongoing controversy surrounding San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus.

Two San Mateo County supervisors released an independent report on Tuesday that calls for Sheriff Christina Corpus to resign over allegations of inappropriate behavior.

"Our community deserves trustworthy, ethical and collaborative leaders – especially from those who are sworn to protect us and uphold the law," the lawmakers said.
