Paul J. O’Brien was ordered held without bail Monday in Stoughton District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to two counts each of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, court records show.

According to an arrest affidavit, deputies responded to a house on Bogey Court around 2:58 a.m. after a 12-year-old called 911 saying her stepfather was armed with a knife, and her mother had been stabbed and was bleeding.

When asked by dispatch how many times he stabbed his mother, the suspect, who turned 29 on the day of the attack, replied “enough,” police said.
