President-elect Donald Trump has tapped House Republican Conference chair and longtime ally Rep. Elise Stefanik, of New York, to serve as ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik is Trump's first Cabinet pick for his second term in the White House.

Several global crises will confront Elise Stefanik as U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Among them will be conflicts between the United Nations and the administration she represents.

Stefanik, who serves as House Republican Conference Chair, was among those discussed as a potential vice presidential choice.
