The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office (SMCSO) said it is closely monitoring an Amber Alert phone scam that seems to be targeting Hispanic residents. According to SMCSO, residents should be on the lookout for scammers posing as Amber Alert reps who offer to register their children through the alert system.

The California Highway Patrol says a new scam is circulating where people pose as Amber Alert "representatives" and attempt to gather personal information.

The scammers offer to "register" children for the AMBER Alert system, ask for confidential information and try to meet at victims' homes, officials said.

Authorities in SC issued an Amber Alert Friday morning after a young child was allegedly abducted. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division sent out the alert at 5:48 Friday morning and noted that a 1-year-old girl named Dylan Saige Cooper was missing. Authorities allege that Cooper was abducted by Macie Eaddy, 32.
