European Union regulators on Wednesday imposed fines on Apple and Meta totalling 700 million euros ($877 million) for violating new antitrust rules, the first sanctions under landmark legislation aimed at curbing Big Tech's power.

The European Commission has fined Apple 500 million euros (£428.5 million) and Meta 200 million euros (£171.4 million) for breaches of the EU’s digital competition rules.Apple’s fine is for preventing app developers from pointing users to cheaper options outside the App Store.

Recently, the EU imposed big fines on Apple and Meta, two of the leading US big tech companies. Apple was the hardest hit with a €500 million fine. Meta, on the other hand, got a €200 million one. The sanctions come in response to certain business practices at both firms.
