Asking an arrowhead hunter to turn someone else onto one of their spots is the lateral equivalent to asking them if you can borrow their girlfriend..or worse yet, their truck. ETA: I'm talking about a seasoned artifact hunter giving up a spot.

Jan 12, 2024 · I found this while metal detecting a farm in Northampton County on Virginia's Eastern shore. I initially thought is might be a fid used for rope splicing but it seems too sharp. It is made of a thin copper rolled in to a sharp cone. There also appears to be wood fibers inside it. Thanks for any help. It is about 2.5" long

Every projectile has an upper limit for its total weight (which in turn determines the maximum weight for the tip), whether it be a spear, a dart, or an arrow but the upper limit is higher for a dart and higher still for a spear. And that’s what creates the overlap and uncertainty. It isn’t that an arrowhead is always smaller than a dart point.
