Aug 9, 2012 · High lung hit with poor bullet performance can often results in poor blood trails. Have seen it plenty of times with broad heads too. Basically a through and through. Don't get much blood until lungs fill enough to get blood draining out hole. Usually get blood after a while but if animal drops in cover before that happens can be tough to find.

I didn't have a desire to keep the velvet so stripped it all off the afternoon I shot it, and took off as much of the membrane as I could a few days later. It's been drying outside but I'm seeing what is either A) bloodstain, or B) blood in the antler.

Mar 2, 2013 · I hunt big canyon country, watch lots of guys over the years spend 45 minutes crossing a canyon to follow up a 300 or 400 yard shot. Many times they are well short of where the animal was standing. I'll bet a dozen times over the years if looped over let them know I had hung a ribbon where first blood was. This tool is outstanding in my opinion.

A little bit of blood soon turned into a consistent blood trail, although not nearly as much blood as I usually see on a deer I've shot at point blank range. About about 50 yards more, I see the deer on its side facing away.

Dec 5, 2021 · What you are seeing is normal with longer hang times. It is the pigment responsible for meat color. It is a protein called myoglobin (similar to Hemoglobin in blood). It is bright red when oxygenated, dark red/purplish when deoxygenated such as vacuum sealed, and brown when oxidized. Some browning is completely normal and fine to eat.
